Lots of demand for your product is always a good thing. But with lots of demand comes lots of shipping costs. And lots of complaints from customers who can’t get their hands on your product fast enough.
For shelf-stable food and supplement businesses, though, there is one easy trick to speed your delivery times and lower your shipping costs.
It’s called the “1-pound rule.”
The 1-pound rule is exactly what it sounds like: It means getting the packages you ship under 1-pound per package.
Why, you might ask? Because despite all its bad press, the United States Postal Service is an expert when it comes to moving packages under 1-pound. You’ll be able to ship products faster and cheaper if they fall under this threshold.
What’s more, carriers like FedEx, UPS, and others can offer you a blended service for packages under 1-pound: They’ll pick up your packages from your 3PL, do the heavy lifting of getting it across the country, and then hand it over to USPS to bring it home (literally).
